Model building

With its unique technical properties Compacfoam expands options for applications in model building, where it often offers economical, easy to process alternatives to traditional materials. Since traditional polystyrene foams such as XPS and EPS are often used in model building, suitable adhesives and processing tools are often available.

The range of applications spans from architecture and technical model building to rapid prototyping. The advantages are the simple processing options and the absolute physiological safety

• Compacfoam is lightweight with high stiffness
• Compacfoam is dimensionally stabile even with changing temperatures and humidity
• Compacfoam does not swell or shrink
• Compacfoam is pure plastic and hence there are no problems with organic decomposition
• Compacfoam is homogeneous EPS, and it can be disposed of or recycled without problems with residual waste
• Compacfoam is unusually well suited for gluing and processing
• Compacfoam is absolutely physiologically harmless

In this regard, the range of applications determines the density categories, Dichteklasse, used from CF100 to CF400.

in this respect, high density signifies:

• fine, small-celled material structure
• high stiffness
• high weight
• good screwability
• fine surface even after milling

in this respect, low density signifies:

• good stiffness in spite of light weight
• easy to process even, e.g., with paper knife or hot wire

Blocks according to customer’s specifications.

Sheets up to ~ 20mm can be cut easily with the paper knife.

Blocks can be milled, sawed or cut with traditional hot wire, Heissdrahtgeräten.

Gluing is achieved with solvent-free adhesives Coating with solvent-free colours is possible without complications. Compacfoam is dimensionally stabile, light-weight and screwable.
